JOHESU suspends 6-week old strike

Image
The Joint Health Sector Unions (JOHESU) has suspended its six-week old strike. National Chairman of the union, Comrade Biobelemoye Josiah, told newsmen in Abuja on Thursday, that the union's National Executive Council (NEC) approved the suspension of the strike because of the sympathy they have for the suffering Nigerian masses. He said it was also to pave way for further negotiations to continue on Monday next week. Comrade Josiah said the strike was not suspended because of the recent order by the National Industrial Court but because the intervention of the Senate President Bukola Saraki played a major role. The JOHESU leader said that the strike action was not politically motivated but to save the health sector from imminent collapse. Imo APC petitions NWC, wants Okorocha suspended

Image
The Imo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has petitioned the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party asking it to suspend Governor Rochas Okorocha for what the state chairman, Hillary Eke termed “anti-party activities”. Eke in the petition signed by the Publicity Secretary of the party, Nwabueze Oguchienti, accused Okorocha of establishing a parallel party by appointing an acting chairman, Mr Chris Oguoma, in the state against the constitution of the party. Eke said if not promptly checked by the national leadership of the party, the action was capable of plunging the state into avoidable crisis. Governor Okorocha had two weeks ago announced Oguoma from Owerri Municipal Council as the acting chairman of the party following his loss at the ward, local government and state congresses held in Imo. The petition, read: “Pursuant to Article 21D (11) of the APC Constitution, the State Working Committee (SEC) has made appropriate recommendations to the National Working...

‘Our democracy encourages corruption’

Image
A senatorial aspirant from Kaduna Central, Alhaji Lawal Adamu Usman, has said 19 years of democracy in Nigeria only encouraged more corruption and violence than physical and human development. He said though the President Muhammadu Buhari-led government had achieved a lot, Nigeria’s democracy was full of corruption right from the process of electing leaders at the party levels. “We have seen within the last 18 years how political office holders embezzled and stole trillions of naira more than any military regime,” he said.  Popularly called Mr LA, the politician said though Nigerians had kept accusing military regimes of dictatorship and right abuse, “yet the civil rule could not improve the lives of the citizens.”

The ranking lawmaker spoke in an interview following alleged moves by the nPDP members, including Senate President, Bukola Saraki, to dump the All Progressives Congress (APC). “Politics is politics. Elections are coming; nPDP is dead since the day its members joined the APC. There is nothing like nPDP. That group should not exist. “Nigerians should not take it (nPDP) like a new group; there is nothing like that again as there is nothing like ACN, CPC,” he said.
