‘Our democracy encourages corruption’

A senatorial aspirant from Kaduna Central, Alhaji Lawal Adamu Usman, has said 19 years of democracy in Nigeria only encouraged more corruption and violence than physical and human development.
He said though the President Muhammadu Buhari-led government had achieved a lot, Nigeria’s democracy was full of corruption right from the process of electing leaders at the party levels.
“We have seen within the last 18 years how political office holders embezzled and stole trillions of naira more than any military regime,” he said.
Popularly called Mr LA, the politician said though Nigerians had kept accusing military regimes of dictatorship and right abuse, “yet the civil rule could not improve the lives of the citizens.”
